Initial Engagement

When you engage Indus Legal, we will provide you with a letter of engagement that outlines the scope of work, the team members assigned to your matter, our fee arrangements, and your rights under the Lawyers and Conveyancers Act 2006.

Our Professional Obligations

As lawyers, we are bound by professional conduct rules set by the New Zealand Law Society. These rules require us to act in your best interests, maintain confidentiality, avoid conflicts of interest, and handle your trust funds in accordance with the Lawyers and Conveyancers Act 2006 and the Trust Account Regulations.

Fees & Billing

Our fees are typically calculated on a time basis, though we may agree on fixed fees or other arrangements depending on the nature of the work. Our letter of engagement will set out the applicable fee arrangement.

We provide regular invoices and are happy to discuss our fees with you at any time. If you have concerns about fees, we encourage you to raise them with your primary contact at the firm.

Confidentiality

All information you provide to us is treated as strictly confidential and protected by legal professional privilege. We will not disclose your information to any third party without your consent, except where required or permitted by law.

Conflicts of Interest

Before accepting any new engagement, we conduct a conflicts check. If a conflict or potential conflict is identified, we will advise you and discuss the appropriate course of action, which may include declining the engagement or obtaining informed consent from all affected parties.

Trust Account

Indus Legal maintains a trust account with a registered bank in New Zealand for the purpose of holding client funds. All trust account transactions are conducted in accordance with the Lawyers and Conveyancers Act 2006 and the Trust Account Regulations 2008.

Complaints

We take all complaints seriously. If you have a complaint about our service, please contact our Managing Partner in the first instance. We will investigate your complaint promptly and work with you to resolve it.

If we are unable to resolve your complaint, you may refer the matter to the New Zealand Law Society or the Legal Complaints Review Officer.

Professional Indemnity Insurance

In accordance with the Lawyers and Conveyancers Act 2006, Indus Legal maintains professional indemnity insurance through the New Zealand Law Society's Lawyers' Professional Indemnity Insurance scheme.
